A different shape of foldable: The Fold8 opens sideways into a 7.6-inch 4:3 display rather than the tall, narrow book layout of previous Folds. That aspect ratio suits reading, documents and video far better, and folded it sits at 81.9mm wide — narrower in the pocket than most large phones.

Thin and genuinely light: 4.5mm unfolded and 201g. For context, that’s lighter than most standard flagship phones, in a device that opens to nearly tablet size.

Displays: The main panel is a Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X at 1828 x 2448, 120Hz adaptive, HDR10+, peaking at 3000 nits with an anti-reflective coating. The 5.5-inch cover display runs the same LTPO AMOLED tech at 120Hz behind Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, so it’s fully usable without unfolding.

Performance: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 built on a 3nm process with the Adreno 840 GPU and 12GB of memory. This is the fastest chip Samsung ships.

Cameras: A 50MP main sensor with optical stabilisation and a 50MP ultrawide, recording 8K at 30fps and 4K at up to 120fps. Two 10MP selfie cameras — one on the cover, one inside — so you shoot the same either way.

Battery and charging: 4800mAh with 45W wired charging that reaches 63% in half an hour, plus 20W wireless and reverse wireless charging for earbuds or a watch.

SIM setup: The Fold8 takes one physical Nano-SIM plus an eSIM, so you can still run two numbers at the same time — there’s just no second physical tray. All the major South African networks support eSIM, and loading a second line takes a few minutes through your network’s app or a scan code. The device is open to all networks and supports Samsung Pay.

Software support: Ships on Android 17 with One UI 9, and Samsung commits to seven major Android upgrades — supported into 2033.
